The Acting Ghosts In London’s Theatres


The great Russian actor and director Konstantin Stanislavksy once said, “Unless the theatre can ennoble you, make you a better person, you should flee from it.” It seems that some actors have felt they can continue to be ennobled long after their performance is over. Even after death some are still hanging around backstage:
Sir Patrick Stewart reported seeing the ghost of John Baldwin Buckstone (1802 - 1879) on stage with him during a performance of Waiting For Godot in 2009. This occurred at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, and he’s far from the only actor to perform there to see the actor-manager. Theatre staff have said Buckstone often appears to watch comedies in particular.
