With sightings and reports of paranormal activity dating back to ancient times, the existence of ghosts has been a universally divisive topic spanning centuries of discussion, study, investigation and… Derek Acorah. Interwoven into religion and a prominent topic in the folklore of myriad cultures across the globe, there isn’t a human being alive on the Earth today that doesn’t hold an opinion on whether ghosts are real or not.
Defined as being the spirit of a person that continues to exist after death, and it’s a common belief that apparitions and ghosts only manifest in places they’re spiritually or emotionally tethered to; usually a building in which they used to live, or the place they died.
There is certainly no shortage of those in Newcastle either – wherever you turn there’s a paranormal yarn ready to be spun about what goes bump in the night. This is a city laden with cobbled streets blanketed by an eerie fog that are patrolled by vengeful spirits, haunted hotels inhabited by souls of grisly murder victims and supernatural curses that can inflict instant death upon a person.
Castle Keep is undoubtedly the most notorious haven for paranormal enthusiasts and a no-fly zone for folk whose heart would explode out of their chest at the mere creak of a floor board, but Newcastle has proven a rich source of terrifying ghost tales in recent years, with these being arguably the most blood-curdling.
