A practitioner of Wicca is called a witch, but the idea many people have of witches is a bit off the mark. Most people think of a witch as a warty woman who lives in the woods with her cat, bewitches innocent travelers, and rides her broomstick across the sky at night. Now certainly, some witches do like cats and some have broomsticks for purposes other than just cleaning, but broomsticks have obviously never been used in an attempt to fly. Symbolically, the broomstick actually represents the union between the God and the Goddess in Wicca and is used in magic to “sweep away” negative energy. There are many more misconceptions surrounding Wicca, and we hope to clear up some of them below.
